I think they will probably always be somewhat viable. The history buffs out there will continue to purchase.

What are your thoughts on samples? Should the laws on using samples be more strict or open for independent artist when compared to artist that are signed to major record labels?

I think Singles are great but ONLY IF you have many other publicly available (or Free to listen to) pieces where your fans have actually discovered you from in the first place. If you don’t have many pieces out there being heard by your fans already, then it is better to make an Album where you can feature your genre/style of music. That’s how I see it.
