Our Music Technology channel provides comprehensive coverage of music production technology, including practical aspects of design, build, and installation of production and creative spaces. We cover fundamental topics such as sound design, synthesis, mixing, mastering, and audio post-production, as well as various software and hardware tools, including DAWs and virtual instruments and effects plugins.

We also delve into sequencing, arranging, recording, production, mixing, and mastering, as well as studio acoustics, Dolby ATMOS, AI in music, emerging technologies, new workflows, and management tools. Members engage in topics such as building their own studio, dealing with acoustics, electronics, mixing and recording environments, and how to develop a better understanding of sound. You will gain a solid foundation in the techniques and skills necessary for writing and producing rap and hip hop music from a composition and audio perspective. Learn how to create compelling lyrics, beats, and melodies, and mix and master your tracks for a professional sound. Understanding the business side of the industry, including marketing, branding, and legal considerations. Hip hop and rap are closely related genres, and the distinction between them can be blurry at times. We are going to explore them what goes into distinguishing them in the writing, production and sonic mix elements. Then learn to create them ourselves. For example; Old School Hip Hop: characterized by the use of break-beats and sampled loops, often with simple drum machine patterns. New School Hip Hop: more recent era of hip hop, characterized by more complex rhythms, a greater focus on lyricism, and the use of more advanced production techniques.

Gangsta Rap: A subgenre from the late 1980s, characterized by its depiction of urban violence, crime, and the gang lifestyle. Conscious Hip Hop: in the late 1980s characterized by its focus on social and political issues, and its emphasis on positive messages. Trap Music: originated in the Southern US in the early 2000s, characterized by heavy 808 basslines, snare rolls, and hi-hats, as well as its focus on drug dealing and street life. Drill Music: originated in Chicago in the early 2010s, characterized by its aggressive delivery, heavy basslines, and violent lyrics. Mumble Rap: Mumble Rap: A subgenre of hip hop that emerged in the mid-2010s, characterized by its use of heavily autotuned vocals and sometimes nonsensical lyrics.

Don Ramos

Don began his career in 1979 recording and producing over 40 albums and hundreds of demos, and singles, He became Chief Engineer, Studio Manager, and recording studio owner of Profile Studios in Vancouver BC He was invited to be lead instructor and then Audio Program Head at Centre for Digital Imaging and Sound where he later became Dean Of Education. He then became Vice President Education for Centre for Arts and Technology in BC Canada. Don received his PhD in Education from UBC in 2012. In 2016 he became an ICF Certified Executive Coach. He is President of Digital Music Alliance and serves as chairman for the education council. 

This channel explores a relationship between spirituality and music, with a focus on understanding how music can evoke spiritual experiences and contribute to personal growth and transformation and foster personal and spiritual development. To deepen students’ understanding of their own spirituality and how music can contribute to their spiritual growth and well-being. We will explore the use of music to connect with something beyond the physical realm, whether that be a higher power, a sense of interconnectedness, or a deeper sense of self-awareness.
Spirituality in music can manifest in a variety of ways, such as through the use of certain musical elements like harmony, rhythm, and melody, as well as through lyrics or vocal techniques that inspire or evoke a sense of the transcendent. It can also be expressed through the context in which the music is performed or listened to, such as in religious or spiritual ceremonies, meditative practices, or simply in personal moments of reflection or connection with others. Overall, spirituality in music can offer a way to connect with something greater than oneself, and can provide a powerful and transformative experience for both the listener and the performer.
